Need some advice- is there a difference internally between a 727 transmission for a 440 vs one for the 426 Hemi? This would be for a 1970 E-body.

Thanks!

If it is a 440hp trans then no difference. If it is for a 440 luxury car then yes. They are different. Find the PK number on the trans and do an internet search or post it here and the number will tell what you have.

Thanks Challenger6pak. It’s a warranty replacement tranny. I don’t think there are any markings on the tranny but I will check. The reason I was asking is that some guy on eBay is advertising an HD drum as being for the Hemi and 440 six pack and exceedingly rare. I thought there was no difference between them.

I wouldn't say exceedingly rare. The Hemi, six pack and 440hp used heavy duty internals. Some truck and all motor home transmissions have the heavy duty internals. Also if a luxury car was ordered with the 440 TNT, it would also have the heavy duty transmission. I forgot that in my first post. I believe the 340 TA 727 used the same internals also. I'd have to look it up to be sure.
