I just bought a 1970 Barracuda that was made into an AAR clone. It was originally a 383 2 barrel engine. It now has a 340 (not sure what year). The paint is okay but is blistering and bubbling up in a couple of spots. I assume the paint was sprayed over the rust. My question is, if I repaint the car, should I restore it to a standard Barracuda or retain the AAR badging? Thanks.

Dude, it's your car. Do it your way. Just kinda thinking out loud here, but why would you want to restore back? Because of what it's supposed to be or because of other people's opinions or ??? Why would you consider keeping it as an AAR? Just think it over and do it your way and if you change your mind, it can be changed again. DAMHIK. I've been down that road. Just my 2 cents

I'd probably be inclined to leave it as an AAR clone. Is burnt orange the original color or was it changed? Is there an original fender tag or build sheet? Just wondering how it was originally equipped - a good color combo or some cool options might sway me to put it back to the way it was built.

I just bought the car yesterday. I'm really not sure what I want to do. It does need some rust repair on the trunk. It will need to be repainted. If I repaint it I wasn't sure if I wanted to leave it plain or replace the graphics. Right now, I need to get the carb adjusted and replace the fuel pump. I'll drive it for a while and decide later. Thanks

The fender tag indicates it was burnt orange metallic.

Consider keeping it like it is.

There is a great looking Barracuda in our area that frequents the local shows.
It is FK5 and has a 440-6 with a Tremec TKX 5-Speed, strobe stripes, and a Shaker hood with the AAR ducktail spoiler.
Very, very nice car. VIDEO of the car.

Mine is an AAR clone with a 440 6 pack and tremec 5 speed. I purchased it this way, and the AAR look has really grown on me so much that IF/When it needs a repaint, etc. I think I'll keep the clone look. It definitely attracts attention and conversation at car shows or gas stations, etc. People see it and then say ...wait.. a 440 6 pack? Let's me talk about the car and meet new people.

I'm with the others.
Not sure what would make a '70 383 2bbl car "worth" matching the fender tag, especially without the original engine . Go with what makes you happy. As long as it looks good, it won't hurt the value and might even increase it.
Mine was originally a 6cyl (nobody's screaming for that). Put a 383 in decades ago, and now restoring it as a '71 GC/Cuda. There never was such a thing, but I love the look of an overhead console, leather seats and gill'd fenders. Even more if you're keeping it as a driver. Make it like you want it and enjoy it every time you turn the key!

I like the "drive it a while and decide" part....go to some shows / cruise-ins and see other cars and colors in person, then do it how you want to.

I love the color, girlfriend had a FM3 AAR for a while. Miss the car. I'd be tempted to repaint that color with the strobe stripes minus the AAR decal.
