I found out that Barracuda door handles and Challenger door handles are different. When you think about it makes sense. I you fit a Barracuda handle on a Challenger there will be a small gap in the center of the handle verses placing a Challenger handle on a Barracuda there will be a small gap on the top and bottom of the handle. The rubber gasket will normally make this less apparent. Reason being Barracuda door panel has an outward curve while a Challenger door panel has an inward curve. http://www.cuda-challenger.com/cc/index.php?topic=31531.0

Good that you found that out. For all the rest of the members, the Challenger outside door handles were unique in 70-71. Concave to follow the door's contour. From 72 an on, a single part number for both Challenger and Barracuda.

The 72 - up handle is the Barracuda style. The bean counters must have caused the change.

Actually I have known this for years but a lot of the handles have been swapped out over the years as they broke often with whatever the dealer had is stock at that time & often the wrong handles were installed .

My vert had one of each on it and they were worn out so I replaced them both with the correct ones.

It wasn't always what they had in stock. I worked in parts at a Chrysler dealership when they were closing out the 60's and 70's parts. The older style of door handle part number was supersceded to the newer part number and newer part. It was all the dealer could get and it showed up correct in the order book.

Matt. I bet unless you told someone, nobody noticed that they are different.

Probably not but it bugged the heck out of me! I bought a new set for the A66 project that I sold and they made a big difference on the vert.
