I'm continuing to build my dash as I'm waiting for the pad to come back from abcmoparts. I checked the seat belt light and noted it wasn't working so instead of spending 50 to $75 on a used one I decided to see if I could take it apart and maybe replace the bulb. I've included a couple of pictures and if you're careful you can actually remove the cover and expose the inside bulb. I just need to now find an LED bulb that I can solder the two wires to. There is one really small flat tab that holds the cover onto the plastic and needs to be gently pride back along with the prongs and you can wiggle that cover off without damaging anything.

I got lucky on this one and it had a bad connection which I repaired and we're good to go. I think you could solder in an LED bulb easily and I found quite a few online.

You're more patient than me, I cut out the back, used a LED and silicone to seal it up. Not pretty, but that bulb gets hot. I've repurposed it as an OD indicator, so it's on most of the time I'm driving.

I was considering taking the back of mine off like you did it but I thought what the heck I'll see if I can pry it off
