When Pop bought my '74 ages ago we dug through it and found a small spiral bound notebook which the original owner had.

He wrote everything to do with the car down in the notebook, including mileage. For instance, Feb of '74 was when he drove it home. It had something like 12 miles on it. A week later he put snow tires on it, cost, and mileage when he did it. He wrote down every fill up, every oil change, when he bought a light bulb, etc. and when he did, he wrote down the cost and the mileage. I have a detailed history of this car!

The second owner did the same.

The third owner, who Pop bought the car from, never drove it.

I thought the little notebook was gone as I couldn't find it. Seems it was in the trunk of my nephew's Duster. He found it! When I can I'll scan it through and put up some pics!

Cool story ramenth!

A buddy of mine bought a 62 dart from a guy at a garage sale a couple years ago. The guy was the original owner, and he did the same thing until he parked it in the early 90's. Everything is documented right down to every oil change. Pretty cool stuff!

Finds like this are awesome. I've restored cars where the car seems to talk to you about it's history. Little things like receipts for something dated ages ago found under the backseat, you guys know what I'm saying. But when the previous owner kept a running log of the car, like this one, and alley's buddy's car, it's like sitting down with your grandfather and hearing the stories of they way things were. The little things give you snippet, but things like this tell a more complete story.

Got another nice surprise yesterday, too. Pop was going through some of his stuff and found the owner's manual on the car.

Thats a cool thing to have. Are you going to keep up the tradition?

I'm thinking I will. I wrote in it when Pop got it home, but he started with the body and sheetmetal so fast it was hard to keep up. So I'll start fresh with the, ahem, fifth owner...
