Has anyone attempted to use the stock exhaust manifolds that come with the 6.4L crate engine on an E body? Looks like these are basically shorty headers, 3" output.

Probably a longshot but I thought I'd ask. I'm going to fit the engine shortly before finishing body/paint.

Thanks...

Yup not even close. The Holley swap shorties fit great. Unfortunately, they don't make the long tubes anymore and in fact seem to be discontinuing a lot of the e-body Gen III hemi swap items.

ok so I am doing the same thing - 6.4L with 8hp70 trans and I was looking at the Blackeart shorty headers on the Holley site but they ALL say "manual steering only", so what about power steering cars?

I am planning to buy a flexible (oil) dipstick, but what about the oil cooler - what did you do to deal with that?

I am going with the USCT motor mounts.

Just got rid of the oil cooler and used a 45deg adapter (truck) there is a hellcat 90deg style now that comes with fittings for a remote oil cooler. Might switch to that later. My low pro blackheart headers fit fine with my power steering unit, tight but fine. but I did use the Holley motor mounts, don't know about the USCT mounts.

Thank you for responding. What are you running for a PS box, is it stock? I'm thinking about getting a Borgeson unit but everything is $$$$ so trying to be strategic about my purchases.

So you went with something like this for the headers?

Perfect and thank you. 2 more questions:

1. Did they come with gaskets? I don't seem gaskets pictured or mentioned so I am thinking "not"
2. Did you use anything special for bolts, or did you use studs etc? I had a major PITA with exhhaust manifiold hardware (loosening up) until I bought some top-quality bolts but that was a while back. Any advice is appreciated.

Thank you

Came with hardware, bolts. I bought factory manifold gaskets (MLS) from the dealer, just my preference. I used a dab of antisieze, stainless bolts into aluminum heads, I plan on checking and retorquing them after several heat cycles and probably every 6 months or so after that until I'm sure they are staying put, lol

Great, thank you yet again. I ordered the headers and am hoping to ge the engine and trans mocked up in the engine bay over xmas break with the motor mounts and (Holley) trans mount I bought. Then I can see where I stand with the headers and I will also look into the 90 degree oil filter adapter with fittings for an oil cooler.

Are you using a car 8hp70 or a truck 8hp70?? The truck tail shaft coupler will hit with the Holley mount, as will the rear of the casing on the torsion bar hoop (will need to be shaved down, has extra "meat" webbing for installing a 4x4 transfer case, even the 2wd model) Car will be fine. The coupler (quibo style) can be swapped with the truck Coupler, to fit.

Also the transmission vent tube on the top of the casing WILL prove to be and issue, lol. USCT mount may move it forward enough to beat the tunnel up enough, I used the Holley motor mounts and no Bueno. Had to eventually cut the tunnel and make a cap for it to clear.

My engine/trans combo came out of a 2020 scat pack challenger, so seems like I will be ok with the Holley mount. I bought a vent tube kit that will hopefully take care of the issue you mentioned, but is the white bulge is the "cap" you made? Nicely done. I've seen some other posts with info on which parts (that stick off the trans) to cut off so it will fit in the tunnel more easily, but I'm not sure how much modification will be required to make it fit.

Thanks for the pics that manifold is definitely close but that looks like it works.

ah ok yeah basically the stock line set-up. I have that. The issue I had was the nipple on the transmission itself stuck out too high (hit trans tunnel right at the seam weld) and was crushing the 90deg elbow.
ok that's helpful and thanks. I figure once I get to the point of (carefully) trying to shoehorn the engine and trans into the car that's the kind of thing I will be watching for - among many other things LOL
