Console cars (option C16) have a console glovebox with a keyed lock.
Did all Barracudas/Challengers with a console just get the chrome turn knob?

Did non-console E-Bodies come with a keyed lock on the dash glovebox or just the chrome turn knob?

Now I haven't owned, seen or worked more than about 50 Barracudas and Challengers, but everyone I have had the console key lock that matched the glove box and trunk locks. Maybe my exposure was lop sided by West Coast vehicles?

So the Glove Box Latch (turn knob) was standard (S - Standard) and the Glove Box Lock was optional (E - Extra Cost) except on a convertible. That makes sense for the convertibles. The next question would be what code was selected for this extra cost glovebox lock or was this part of another package of options.
I will research and update if I find the answer. Anyone know?

I found the Glove Box Lock option code in the 1970 Barracuda Pricing Bulletin. It is option code J11 Glove Box Lock - Standard Convertible for $4.10 retail price and available on all models. I do not see J11 as part of any other A code packages.

I also found J11 listed in the "F" Series 1970 Model Code Lists booklet on page 25.

And it is also in the 1970 Car and Equipment Prices a.k.a. the Pocket Salesman Guide on page 56-57.

And it is also on the 1970 MODEL BARRACUDA Vehicle Order form used by the dealership to select your options on an ordered car.

That's what I'm thinking, what with Dodge being the higher end line and all. We've owned I guess a half dozen Challengers and for some reason on top of that have like another 6 or 8 glove box doors with latches laying around (I think this stuff multiplies in the dark when left alone) and they are all the keyed variety. Standard dash cars, rallye dash cars, etc. doesn't seem to make a difference.

I would be interested in a keyed version for my dash glovebox.

@MoparCarGuy I'd be happy to hook you up with one but IIRC on most of the extra ones I have the knobs aren't in great shape anymore. Some better than others. But if one in driver condition would work for you just send me a message.

Apprarently they're being reproduced now-

And there are usually some NOS on ebay, they seem to be fairly common still.

I appreciate the offer and the info on repros/used. I did not really think I would put anything other than insurance and registration in the dash glove box anyway.
Those documents can go in the console glove box.

This was more of a want than a need but a lot of things with Mopar are that way. 😀

I actually have a pair of gloves in my 70 Challenger glove box! It gets chilly here in the desert in the winter. Of course most of you folks are shoveling snow in the winter!
