i have a 1970 something 440 in my 70 challenger. It has a 933 pan and a 21-3/4 inch dipstick with 5 quarts of oil in it it shows just below add on the stick. thru research i am told that the stick should be 23" long. which would compensate for the low reading on the 21-3/4" stick. i have had the car for years and just discovered this. have i been running 7 quarts of oil with no issue? or should i get a 23" stick and assume all is good? thanks any input is welcome.

In principle, you can pour in as much oil as will fit, as long as the level is low enough not to be picked up by the spinning crankshaft. If your 440 has the factory windage tray, you can run a tad more.

I would recommend getting the correct oil dipstick, but I think you are okay, and need not be in a hurry about it.
