The discussion in another thread about removing the springs during camshaft break in has me wondering which technique you guys like best to hold the engine throttle while breaking in an engine. I have used zip ties, so I can watch and listen from the engine compartment.

I also do this , adjustable from under the hood , easy to set or adjust while watching for problems & making other adjustments .
I also remve the Power Steering belt during break in so I don't have to shut down the engine for a PS problem .

The idle screw works well. But when I want to cut the engine to idle, it's not as quick as removing that make-shift zip-tie loop tool. But the zip tie has its issues making kind of lame.

Thank you for the advice

Idle screw twisted in a few turns works well. I like hooking up a tachometer under the hood so I can see the RPMs and adjust if necessary. Also the Thermoquad is easy to slide the fast idle screw off it's step. Thermoquad may not be original but I love them. Another trick related to engine start up that few people do, is pressurize the coolant system to check for leaks. And I agree with Chryco Psycho, you don't need PS for break-in.
