Emblem install

When installing an emblem on the tail finish panel etc. what do you seal the holes with behind the nut? I don't water to leak in behind the emblem and into my trunk. Plumbers putty, silicon or some type of butyl tape/material?

I use butyl sealing tape like this stuff;

You can usually find it at your local hardware store in the RV/moblehome supplies. I have a couple of RVs so I keep a roll of it around, at a small piece of it works great fro what you're describing.

I have always used in these situations 3M Strip Caulk or as some call it Dum Dum. It works great and very similar to the sealant the factory used.
