Exterior emblems...

Hey guys.. so I put new emblems on the car about 4 years ago (it had none when I bought it) and one of them imploded on me. It is the R/T symbol I bought new from Year One. At first, I noticed the red insert paint fading, and then the paint itself started to chip off! I couldn't believe it. So I'm contacting them to tell me if they'll replace it for me. Problem is, I don't know how I would even remove this one, since its a stick on, without damaging the paint? Of course, the car doesn't see any sun or other weather, as its only on the road very little during the year. sp this was not exposure related. Anyway, hope this helps someone.

Well, I don't know Ray. But if you pay $65 for a cheap knock off like this, somebody should be held liable for it, I would think? I'm sure the OEM emblems didn't fade like this. I could see if it was subjected to adverse conditions, but it was not. Plus, I'll probably have to have a body shop remove the emblem so I could replace it. And if they don't offer to replace it, my only option is to re-paint it again, which I'd rather not do either.

It’s been years since I dealt with Year One, but they were very good about returns. Worth a shot I suppose. I would think gently warming it up with a heat gun would soften the adhesive enough to be able to pry it off?

Yep, anybody should be that pays good money for garbage like that.

Will be restoring my original emblems. The quality of repops from China are garbage. It only cost a few bucks more to have originals restored. The 50+ year old emblems are of great quality, and should last another 50 years once restored. My opinion.

I really don't think they will refund after 4 years, but I can help with removing the stick-on emblems. Heat the emblem with a hair dryer, then take dental floss and slowly "saw" through the adhesive. You should be able to get the emblem, and most of the adhesive off this way. The remaining adhesive will come off with WD-40 or Goo Gone. A little polish and yoiu are done.
