How to install T/A Chin Spoiler

I have a 1970 challenger and bought a set of t/a chin spoilers and want to know how to install them. Thanks

these were dealer installed items so not that accurate , they install near the rear lip of the valance & cannot go out very far as they will not sit flat due to the turn signal housings Barry Washington may have more details on his Hamtramk site

Found the diagram I made. Here you go.

1. Locate the spoiler hole towards the middle of the valance first.

2. After that, place the spoiler onto the valance so that the outermost mounting hole is 2 1/8th inches from the edge as shown in the diagram.

3. Using the spoiler as a template, mark where all the holes go.

4. After the holes are marked, check the backside of the valance to make sure the valance mounting brackets won't interfere with your spoiler hardware. If you measured correctly, It'll be fine, but close in spots.

5. Drill holes.

6. Mount spoilers.

Those measurements in that pic are not correct from my documentation on numerous T/A's. The back edge of the front spoilers quite simply just follow the back edge of the valance and the spoilers themselves are not the same width from one end to the other (at least originals are not), they start out wide in the center and narrow down in width toward the outsides thus the 4 mounting holes in the center. The back set of center holes (there are 4 holes) are 1 3/4 inches from back edge of valance to C of the holes and the holes out at the ends (park lamp sides) are 1 inch from back edge of the valance to C of the holes. The width from spoiler to spoiler for the center holes should be 3 inches from C of hole to C of hole. If you mount it back further you would almost be up against the bottom edge of front license tag bracket (if using one) and if apart further the outside may be getting into the curved area at the outsides of the park lamps or very close. I have a front valance here for a documentation spare with original holes in it. If a T/A had front chin spoilers it should show up on the broadcast sheet otherwise they where dealer installed according to my knowledge.

Good deal. This info I got from another T/A owner. There is probably no absolute answer. If you could post a picture to go with your numbers, he can have a choice of how he wants to do it. And I will add it to my collection of Mopar info.

Yes , there was a code you could add spoilers when ordering

I have thought about adding these front spoilers to the front of my car over the years for some possible down force for in the 1/4. Always talk myself out of it since these are a T/A only option originally.

Yes. Code J78. They were extremely rare on the RT. They were a late year option. J81 is the rear spoiler and it was also rare from the factory.
