Left hand, right hand lug nuts?

I own four 70's. Two have l.h. threads on driver side and two have r.h. threads on the driver side. I have owned other 70's that have also had them both ways. I think sometime during the 70 model year Chrysler made r.h. standard for all. Of course, some may have been changed out over the last 50+ years by previous owners as well.

NOTE: This also applies to the 1971 Dodge models. Dodge Division had separate TSBs.

my car was made in may of 1971 and it had left hand treads on one side

Right hand nuts on rear? Left hand on front. What's the deal on these nuts???

The left go on the left and the right on the right. It has to do with the spinning of the tires. Think about when you hold the tire iron steady and spin the wheel to remove or replace the lug nut. That way the forward motion of the wheel is always in the tightening direction. If there is a lug nut that comes loose, there is less chance of it spinning off from the rotation of the wheel. There is a reason Chrysler was known as the engineering company.
