Hello,

I just bought a 1974 barracuda that was originally a 318 with an auto trans and console shift. the engine and trans are no longer with the car. I would like to find a 1973 or 1974 318 engine and transmission for my car with all of the linkages. I would like a complete engine from the air cleaner down to the pan. Also would like the drive shaft that would go with that set up. Please let me know what you have. I am in the Chicagoland area.

Also would that transmission be a A904?

Thanks

Dave

The original trans would be a 904. I would go with a larger motor unless you want to restore the car.

Hello,

Well I wanted to go pretty much original and I am planning on driving this car long distances when I am done. I have the K member from the small block. A larger motor means less mileage and a lot more gas.

The larger motor doesn't always mean more gas. It depends on how you set it up. I built one of the 390's out of a 318 and loved it. With an overdrive transmission and fuel injection, it got the same mileage as a stock 318 with a 727. The 318 has a lot that can be done with it. The factory police heads, a different mild cam, and a 4 barrel make the 318 a nice inexpensive driver.

Hello,

Yes that is why I am looking for a 318. Just thought if I could start with an engine and trans and drive shaft from a 74 that I could go from there.

Thanks

Dave

I would use an earlier 318. Say 1966 for example. They are better motors than the 1974.

If you still need this I have a mostly complete 70 318 (no exhaust manifolds) and have some 904 transmissions with kickdown and some shifter linkage but would need to be picked up here in PA
