Hey everyone, I'm new here. Like brand new here. I'm trying to get my late father's '72 Challenger Rallye 340 4-speed to be a good running car. I'm only having one major issue before I can rive it on the street. All four corners around the intake manifold leak and pool up coolant like no tomorrow . He's collected so many Mopar things over the years, that my basement has become my parts store, that being said, I've been using metal gaskets I found in his basement. Ive gone through 3 sets and always the same issue. This 340 has sat and not turned over for the last 25 years until around last week when I ran it for about 30 seconds, and shut it off in fear of overheating. I have a brand new Edelbrock carburetor and intake manifold on it. Now, the reason I'm posting here and not just trying new gaskets, is because the intake manifold that I'm using, I think was supposed to be for a 360, not a 340. So my questions are... 1) Is the intake manifold interchangeable? 2) What types of gaskets do you use (metal cork rubber)? 3) Do you use RTV? 4) Could the problem be something else like bad heads? Its an original 1972 340 4-speed car if this makes any difference. Thank you in advance.

First... Welcome to the site

1. Yes that manifold will fit both engines. 2. I don't use the metal one. I use Felpro. 3. I always use RTV 4. It could be something else but I doubt it.
At least try new gaskets and some RTV, that may be all you need.

Please post more pictures if you can.

just my 2 cents

T C Cuda is correct. Don't use the tin gaskets especially with an aluminum intake. I recall that I always used an intake gasket dodge sold that was made of some type of fibre that was about 1/8" thick, and made for the 340, (I think it was in the performance catalog) use rtv in the corners. I used edelbrock LD340 manifolds and had great success with the thick gaskets.
Are you sure the heads around the water passages are flat and not corroded?
Good luck
