Hi Guys, need your help. I have a 70 chall 440-6 and looking for info to find a date code correct block. I left the orginal motor on the starting line at Orange County International Raceway back in "82'. I am now starting to restore my chall and looking for info on a block. The car has a build date of 12-69 and the last numbers of the vin are B212682. I remember the last part number on the block being 430-7? Any Help with the casting date and the date on thedistributer pad? Thanks Keith

Do you have your fender tag or a build sheet? They will give you a build date for the car.

Thanks for the help. The car was built 12-9-69. I have found a block that has a casting date of 8-7-69 and a date on the the distributer pad 10 30 , also says F440HP2 and there is a B also stamped on the pad. My question is is this block good enough to make the engine date code correct? TRhanks

I think the build date by the distributer should be closer to the build date of the car. I get what you're trying to do and more power to you but if the engine is not original to the car it won't have the vin # stamped on it. A lot of guys will broaden there search to include a warranty replacement block which wouldn't have any vin stamped on it and gives you a wider range of acceptable dates within the warranty period to search for. If you're keeping the car for yourself you'll always know what's under the hood and if you ever plan to sell the new owner should too. If you have the original engine crossmember to the car it'll have a date code stamped on the front of it facing forward in the center. This is the date that the engine was bolted in so the date stamp on the pad on top should be shortly before that. If I'm not 100% accurate on this someone please correct me.
