10 or so years ago, I bought a replacement shifter boot for my pistol grip shifter. IIRC, it was supposed to be a genuine MOPAR replacement part. At the time I noticed that the rubber material was much stiffer and less supple than my torn up original, but didn't think much of it. Today I finally got around to installing it. The boot material is so stiff that it throws the shifter out of second and fourth gears. :wtf:

Anybody know of a "good" replacement boot?

Mopar E Body 70-74 B Body 71-74 Shifter Boot & Screws RP34M

I'm tempted to try this one from DMT since they actually state that the material is soft. Can anyone vouch for this one?

Thanks

I also got mine from Brewer's. I think it was about 15 years ago. It still works fine.

Try softening the rubber boot you have. Use a hairdryer (or oven is you can get away with it). Down here in the desert, I'd just leave it outside for a few hours as we're already triple digits. Another option if the heat doesn't soften the boot is diesel fuel, but that makes it kinda stinky. There's fancy chemicals out there that soften rubber as well.

I should have tried heating it, but I trashed the boot thinking that I could "trim" it a bit and get it to sit lower on the shift lever. I've got a new one or order from DMT and will see if that one is any softer. Thanks for the replies.

Following up on this.

I ordered the shifter boot from Detroit Muscle Technologies that I linked in my initial post. It is MUCH more pliable than the previous Mopar licensed replacement that I bought, and feels more like my original shifter boot. No more issues popping the shifter out of second and fourth gears!!
