The car i have is pretty complete, A 1970 dodge challenger minus paint and the most important a vin and fender tag. It basically has no numbers to link it, the car has had i believe 4 owners and i am the 5th. The vin got lost somewhere between earlier owners and the fender tag as well. I got the car because it was a rag top, an original 4 speed and as far as i know a big block. This is where i ask the true mopar heads what to do. I know there are cowell numbers and numbers somewhere else, what do i do to get closer to understanding/getting the vin for my car please help!

Welcome to the site. Mabby try and find a build sheet. Should be under the seat or dash or under the carpet. It is going to be realy hard with out both the fender tag and vin. Unless the paint has been striped there should be a sticker in the driver door jam with the vin on it. Or I think there may be some numbers on the core support or some where on the rear packege tray.

Without a the VIN, fender tag and broadcast sheet you have nothing to document the car. If its still has the motor and tranny you can check the serial numbers on them to see if they match the cowl and rad support numbers. That will at least confirm the motor is correct. Maybe ask the previous owners if they have an old registration card, that should have the orginal VIN number. Good luck

Make sure the body numbers match the VIN on the title. You do have a title right? If they match, just go to your local DMV and apply for a state issued VIN. They will apply a new VIN sticker to the car. Every state is different so check with your DMV. As far as figuring out the origonal options for the car...I'm afraid your SOL unless you can track the vehicle history and a previous owner has your paperwork. Good luck!

I'm sorry I have no way of helping your cause any more than these guys already have, but I am interested and would love to see some pics of the car. Should be body #'s on the trunk gutter under the weatherstrip too, I think, same as on B-body.

Other places to look for a build sheet (besides what BO70 mentioned above) are: behind the glove box, between the gas tank and pad, and look under the front seats and rear seat, also behind the seat backs. I noticed yours is a vert. Otherwise, I would have suggested looking behind the sail panels as well. I am curious to see if you have a title for it (as burdar asked above). Also, post some pics of it.
