If you started just with that bare body, you did darn good with $38 assuming the 50 included the purchase price.

I did get some parts with the car. No drive train, doors and some interior parts. Alot of work myself. Sheet metal, frames, new parts, still surprised at the amount of cash it takes to complete one.

I restored cars for clients for about 14 years , the price doesn't change much , I worked for far less than I should have but passion is passion , the #s don't vary by much , Engine builds , body & paint interior etc are similar . Even better aftermarket parts vs original can be similar in price .
Where the difference comes in is how much work you do yourself & how complete the car us when you start , locating impossible to find parts drive up the price .

I bought my car for $3500 in the 90s, I keep track of everything, I now have almost $50k into it, and it's a driver quality POS compared to yours.
But I look at this as a hobby and not an investment. I blow money on golf every weekend and don't expect to ever get that back either.

I just like the cars,so final cost is simple book keeping.
I purchase this approximately 6 years ago. I've been on the look out for the original drive train with no luck. Nice looking orange car with white interior.
So... I plan on this as a driver car.

Bored 416/Deck-balanced/10-1 pistons
340 6-pack intake .065 off sides .040 off ends
Holley carbs- Outboards 440-500cfm
Center carb 440-350 cfm
Comp Cams-1,600 -5,800 range
Duration 268/280,Lift 477/480
TCI Torque converter 1,600-2,000 range
Shorty S.S. headers-21/4 outlet.
Borgeson 14:1 ratio power steering box.
Really getting close to having her back on the road.

it adds up fast ! sheet metal , upholstery, driveline… going thru it now myself.we are doing a complete fix up on a 74 barracuda. in the end it will be worth the cost ! we are doing alot ourselves and have some good friends helping also . a

Off topic I know, but that is a good lookin' dog.

Nothing like a good dog to ride shotgun before you have to use it.
When I got home my dog was just as happy to see me, as if I was gone for 5 days or five minutes. It just didn't matter. The wife would say. Your back already!

Yes
Just interior panels for the white interior, seats, maybe adding the 1971 cassette player if the radio shop ever gets finished with it. A few things underneath. I've done the cam break-in with no issues. Final adjustments on timing and carburetor, then give her a couple road tests if the ice and snow stay away long enough. Diffinatly be at Columbus Nats Ohio next August.

The car looks great! I would hate to try and guess how much I have in mine, I've been messing with it for over 20 years and never kept receipts or anything. I bought it in 2002 for $1500 with no engine or tranny and quite a bit of rust but the body interior was basically all there.

Great security system, I have one too and he thinks the car is his! Gotta love Shepherds!

I just like the cars, but the money part is unfortunately the necessary evil. Took more than what I would have guessed. My car was basically stripped to the shell, no interior, so I got to find out the hard way about 1970 only parts. Seats, A pillars,seat belts, the list goes on.
