TA torsion bars

What a good size torsion bar for street use 15" wheels 340 4 speed TA have frame stiffeners ,Stiffened lower control arms, Firm feel upper control arm ,Borgensen steering box , haven't ordered shock's as yet will probably use bilsteins.
My other TA handles well but the bars are coming in at about .906 most people are saying 1.03 is best but others are saying this is too stiff for street use on a 340

Mopar Performance sells a .96 bar listed as HD handling part number P 5249158
It is one step above the 440/hemi bars.
I went with the .92 bar with my 340. You have additional chassis work done so the larger .96 bar should work for you without going overboard.
You can go aftermarket and get other sizes. I don't see any additional benefit unless you want to circle track race. Some people argue for the 1in + bars. I think it's overkill!

That's where i was looking my factory stock A66 beautiful ride but a bit soft in the corners
The other TA has all the same specs as the 1 in the post & sits dead flat through fast corners a little firmer on the ride
This 1 has iron E/Q heads where the other TA has ali Edelbrock so it looks like .96 it is to counter the extra weight.

Factory torsion bars for 70-71 340's e bodies was a .90 in. I just wanted a slight up-grade to the .92 bar.

This is a chart I have of the diameter of the bars listed in inches for e/b bodies

225 six =0.86

318 1970 = 0.88
1971- 1974 = 0.86
HD 1970-1974 = 0.90

340 1970-71 = 0.90
1972-1973 = 0.86
HD 1970 - 1973 = 0.90

360 1974 = 0.86
HD 1974 = 0.90

383-2bbl 1970-1971 = 0.86
HD 1970-1971 = 0.90
383-4bbl = 0.90

440 1970 = 0.92
1971 = 0.90

426 Hemi 1970-1971 = 0.92

778 / 779 or 780/781 are the large bars the number will be cast on one or both ends

The original bias ply tires would certainly have been the weak link in cornering. Modern tires will certainly help with the handling, .906 is barely fatter than stock; I would go at least .920, but probably the 1.06... I have over 1 inch bars on my car, reinforced control arms, polyurethane bushings, etc. and it is great, but I have an all iron 440.

Either way, many of the new bars do not have any protective coating on them, like the originals. But you can spray them with a flexible undercoating.

I have firmfeel 1.03 w Bilsteins and love them. Not too stiff, 383 with aluminum heads and waterpump housing. So, SB weight.

Ended up going with the FF 1.0" could get ff in .96 they make in 1/16 intervals .92,.94 etc have heard some stories about the other brands.

Firmfeel is the only way to go. IMO They forge all their stuff on site.
