I laid in the trunk and plug welded using a mig welder. It pretty much sucked.

Plug weld. I understand where, show more where you are talking about.
i’m talking of the seam between the taillight hole on the tail panel and the vertical corner of the quarter panel , next too tha welded bracket that has the taillight mount studs in it .. will add pics if necessary next time in shop …..

If it’s still apart, you could use body panel adhesive in the corners.

Yep, still laid in the trunk. Pre-drilled holes in the tail panel and did plug welds.

Panel adhesive is supposedly stronger than welding, if the surfaces are prepared properly. It has more surface contact than a spot weld. When I did my roof I used panel adhesive for the rain gutters. It works great, and can be used in areas where you don’t want to destroy any paint nearby or burn the other side, thin material warpage, etc.

Yes, use adhesive. Check out the new semi-truck trailers. No rivets, they're glued together! Try Loctite Epoxy Weld.

So you're saying, use glue?
In the corners, it would be great. I would still plug or spot weld the rest to replicate the factory appearance. Not only does adhesive have more surface area to grab, it also seals air & moisture out of the area; and no warping of the metal.
