thank you. they really didn't get to the bottom of it. they were suggesting it could have been lower CR rather than higher like I thought. very interesting

Reduced compression ratio for markets with poor gasoline quality.
I wonder how this was accomplished?
I would guess that they used thicker head gaskets or some head modifications rather than new pistons.
Be interesting to check what heads were used?
Curious.

Yes, the thread didn't really explain "optional compression ratio" in detail. I just linked to it as a jumping off point. I was curious to try to research that option code for myself (and you) and that's where the trail started. I'm still looking into it. My uncle was the service manager at a local Dodge dealer during the mid 60's and into the mid 70's and may know what that was all about. Unfortunately being in his 80's with the onset of Alzheimer's makes for difficulty in getting complete stories of the 'Mopar glory days' out of him. I'll give it a shot next time I see him. As paharamia says, "Always something new to learn." I couldn't agree more...
