I am switching from the aluminum valve covers back to stock ones. When I put the stock valve covers on with the cork gasket it leaked like a seive so I took your suggestion and ordered the valve cover gaskets you noted. Do you suggest getting the metal valve cover "washers" (not sure what they...
Thanks heminut. I'm learning a lot, it's my first "restoration" and want things to turn out well. Most of all, it takes a lot of patience, time, and money.
I am not sure how to post on the forums and add photos to show the progress. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. I'd like to keep it all in one place so people can follow.
Some before and after photos.
This was restored by someone in the mid 90's. As you can see, when they took it apart the housing was cracked and screws were put in to reassemble it. I used Locktite superglue to mend it back together and replaced the screws with rivets. The Loctite worked...
I had to get a new turn-switch, the old one was broken. The new ones fit so tight, I don't think they are designed to ever be taken apart after they are connected. I had to use a crow-bar and stick of dynamite to get it pulled apart after I had to take the dash out for the fourth time. I'm...

I used the R410Uk from Retrosound. It was a tight fit but worked. My speaker grill had to be persuaded (shoehorned) into place, but I think that may have been from being remanufactured.

I've been learning some valuable lessons on this project, the most important is to clean the parts immediately as you take the car apart. This would have saved me a great deal of time and kept me motivated to keep the project going, not to mention I would have been more familiar with the parts...
Here's a comparison of the rivets you can get off of Amazon for GM "NOS" v. the ones from ECS.
The ECS rivets are on the top and right in the photos. The Amazon ones have a thicker base than the ECS. Additionally, there appears to be some aging on the ECS rivets, FWIW while the GM "NOS"...
