Good after noon,
looking for advice on building a 340 engine. I'' restoring a 73 340 rally challenger. The 340 is a 68 block with X heads. I would like 300-325 HP. Looking for suggestions from carb to oil pan. Not a budget build, just want good quality build.
Thanks in advance

Stroker crank and clearancing on the bottom end for rod bolts pretty easy. It'll probably make more torque than horsepower bit torque gets you up and gone. Mancini used to rum sales in February on stroker kits. Bought one years ago and all my buddies with big blocks can't understand why mine kicks their butts. They pull very well when set up properly.

A 700cfm carb (or a little more cfm - I was always told to double the displacement of the engine to determine a good start point for cfm of the carb), 10.5 pistons (from early year 340), a little head and intake work on the ports, headers, a proper camshaft for either a stick or automatic transmission (whichever you have). Talk to Mancini or other Mopar shops for the cam profile. I would think that gets you in the 300-325 range. I have a 73 340 Rallye also and that's what I put in mine, except I went with aluminum heads. Anyone agree or disagree? If you want more, the stroker kits are hard to beat. No replacement, for displacement!

1350 cfm on top of a stroker is nice I'll tell ya. My brother has bought 4 different of them "pony cars" trying to keep up. It kills him when I show him my little 340 he can't catch..
