70 440 Timing chain bolt pattern

My 70 Cuda 440 needs a new timing chain ( badly ), I see there are 3 bolt and single bolt options from Summit ? The build date on the car is 12/5/69 and the motor has a "69" stamp on it, but it is a numbers matching motor. Any way to tell what pattern it "probably" is without pulling the cover? I'll take a look at the FSM today and see if it shows the pattern ( maybe should have done that first before posting :cool: )

If memory serves me right only the six pack 440 had the 3 bolt in 1970. The 4 barrel had the single bolt. Of course that all could have been replaced in the last 54 years. :)

68hemiRR, is correct. From the factory only the 440-6 pack and 426 hemi had 3 bolt camshafts. But who knows what might be in there now! I know my favorite Lunati Voodoo cams all seem to be three bolts.

By the way, 69 casting dates are normal as they started making 1970 model parts in the Fall of 1969. The pad on the front of the block should have "F440" stamped on it. See my 70 413 motor pad for reference.

The F440 engine pad for an HP block. Date of 12 8 is December 8, 1969.

Thanks everyone ! This is a numbers matching U code car so that would make it a single bolt Good advice on a new camshaft also, I am looking at a possible rebuild so may just hold off for now until I decide on that

Has the date on your block been changed? The number 1 in 413 is a different font to the 1 in the date.

I assure you that the 70 413 I have came home a 70 motor home from the factory. Goes to show you that the factory used different "fonts". I sure they knew it was a "70" just not sure of the actual build date.
