Sounds like a valve is sticking in the valve body. Easy to remove the valve body by disconnecting the linkage and dropping the fluid pan. Have a factory shop manual handy and it's easy to take apart and clean the valve body!

Welcome to the forum! Yes, sounds like the valve body needs to be cleaned. Like XCudame said, get the shop manual or another good trans book so you can take it apart and know where things go when you put it back together. As for sticky valves, after you clean the casting & valves, lubricate & fit the valve into the valve body. Ensure it slides in very easily. Sometimes dirt and old varnished fluid causes the valves to stick. The valves must move freely in all cases. Doing transmission service like this is a messy process but not difficult to do. Be sure to have a very clean work area. Take your time and lay out all the valves, springs, and check balls exactly as you remove them. I put the checkballs into a cup to ensure they do not roll off the table and get lost. Have fun!
