I have a rebuilt 727 transmission for 72 challenger. If I put it in reverse in goes in reverse at idle, but if I give it some gas the car still moves at idle speed. 1st, 2nd and 3rd all seem to be working just fine. Any ideas?

Thats what I was thinking.

If my car has not been started for a week or two, when I start it to back it out of the shop, it takes a little higher rpm to get it to move, go back a little, put it in nuetral and the car creaps forward. Run it through the gears sitting there or after a drive its back to normal.

When my 72 340 with 727 Cuda is cold I need to put into neutral for a few seconds before shifting into reverse.. otherwise it does just what you describe. Don't know why... but it works fine after it warms up a bit in neutral.

Has it leaked any fluid at all while parked? The front seal will start to leak if not driven regularly. The convertor will leak down when parked for a while. When you start it, put it in neutral to warm up. The front pump does not work in park, that is why you check the fluid level in neutral and not park with a torqueflite transmission. Also the correct fluid level when warm is 1 pint low. If it doesn't want to move when you start it and put it in gear, then try the neutral first approach. If it mo0ves than you have found your problem.

Its a brand new rebuilt. It drives good in 1st, 2nd and 3rd just reverse issues. I will have to take it back to the transmission shop. I talked to them and they thought I was crazy but will fix whatever issues there are.
