Speaking of Hemmings Sales/Auctions; A 2nd A66 hardtop is listed for sale. JH23 H0B 185115. Car looks to be in good condition. Listed by a dealer "WEBEAUTOS" in Las Vegas for $48,495. Based on the fender tag, changes made were; FT6 to FC7 and a 3 speed to 4 speed trans, hood pins, and front and rear spoilers. Has the 15in Rallye wheels also. Price seems very reasonable. https://www.webeautos.com/

Didn't that one just sell on here, Moparts, Facebook or someplace I saw it go for like 40K recently?

Scam Alert
There is an A66 Challenger 4 speed listed for sale on the Milwaukee Craigslist page. FJ5 with yellow bumble stripe. It is a SCAM Ad so Buyer Beware on this one!
The real owner is registered on the A66 Challenger Registry Web site on FB. The car is for sale by Johnny Davis in Indianapolis. Not in Milwaukee! 😔

Attended an All Mopar Car Show in Califon, NJ Saturday and came across an A66 Challenger in restorable condition with a long term owner. Really nice guy who has done exceptional bodywork and owns some really beautiful Mopars that he has restored. He i s currently working on an original 440-6 Shaker Challenger. The A66 has been in long term ownership and is a late 1970 production A66 717 scheduled build date (July 1970) The car is a rare color original black TX9 with a white interior and white top. Has interesting options; coded for dual rear speakers w an AM radio, gas cap, and rear defog! This is the latest A66 Challenger build date in the Registry 717. This could be one of the last or the last A66 Challenger built!

Edelbrock 340 heads with factory HP exhaust manifolds

A66 and 34O Challenger owners- Using Edelbrock 340 heads with factory HP exhaust manifolds
Writing to help others who may have an issue with factory exhaust manifolds and using Edelbrock aluminum heads;
Installed an NOS exhaust heat shield on the driver's side head studs, then installed the factory hp 1970 exhaust manifold. Finally started the newly rebuilt 340 and had a bad exhaust leak! Manifold is intact, in good condition with mating clean surface. Using new eddie aluminum heads specific for the hp340.

It looked like the exhaust manifold wasn't squeezing the bottom side of the gasket for some reason.
Thank you to MK for his thoughts. Based on his suggestion, I took a look at the bottom of the exhaust manifold to look for problems with the bottom of the factory 340 gasket. After some further research (abodies) had a lot of information on small blocks with this issue; Edelbrock heads designed for the 340 have a larger flange on the bottom right side that does not allow the easy use of the factory hp left side manifold. It protrudes far out enough to interfere with the seating of the exhaust manifold. In fact edelbrock recommends the use of headers with their 60179 340 designed heads. (Now I find out)
I should have done additional research when I purchased the heads. There is a solution though; to use a header flange and gasket on the one side with some very prudent filing of either the head flange or the exhaust manifold. Have to be careful if filing the new head due to the closeness of the water passageway in this part of the head.
(One last gripe; why would edelbrock design a head specific for the 340 and not allow the use of the factory manifold on one side?)

From the A66 Registry archives; picture of the Vega family's A66 back in the day. Leo Vega's brother, a veteran owned the car at the time! I am sharing pics and a story for the car provided by Leo;

Leo Vega;
Here’s another pic. The right side had a couple of battle scars from when he raced a 69 Chevelle and they both lost traction and side swiped each other. One night we raced a 67 SS396 Chevelle that was taunting us all through town by chirping all four gears. Finally my brother went for it. We beat him twice. Guy couldn’t believe that he lost the first time. This was on our way to the local drag strip on Saturday night. On our way back we raced a 65 Chevy Nova that had won the street class and we beat him as well. That was a very close race, fender to fender and he actually got in front for a bit but we passed him at the end!!
😃
when we got home that night my brother came to see us in his 69 Firebird 400 and we decided to race him. This time I was a passenger in the 69 Firebird. The challenger beat us - third win of the night!!! My brother in the ‘bird decided to see how past his Firebird could go so he kept going after the challenger had let off. My brother in the Challenger saw we were gaining on him so he floored it again. We were doing 125mph and the Challenger started to pull away from us again! Man I tell you that car was a wolf in sheep’s clothing!
