Ma Mopar was not going to originally offer the 340 in a Challenger and was initially only available in the Cuda.
They made a late decision (mid to late September) to install the 340 in a Challenger and included a few of the RT options with the small block 340. (HD suspension, HD brakes, bumble bee stripe, RT hood and initially E-60-15 rallye wheels and tires) with the bumble bee decal in the rear quarter windows.
They were essentially RT Challengers with the 340 and a JH code.
If you think about it, they made 11,589 RT Challengers in 1970 w a 383. They only made 6933 A66 340 performance Challengers in 1970. The A66 cars are more rare. And there were only 264 A66 340 convertibles built.
I have owned a number of big block RT Challengers in my early years (440-6, 440-4, and several 383's) Drove a high winding
340 Challenger and never went back! JMO
6PK, Thanks for your thoughts. Phil
Never would have thought that they would have a following, but apparently they do have some small block 340 guys that have made them interesting cars.
