Good advice from above on decoding your tag. Free and easy.
 Looks to be a 73 340 Challenger w a rallye hood, in FE5 Red and black interior. Your build date was February 23. You have a rallye dash and factory AC. Looks to be a nice car.

Thanks for the decoder link, seems a PO did not replace the vinyl top and a left off the accent stripe. I was hoping to see what was the original rear axle ratio and type....but the decoder did not say....any way to know that with no build sheet..

Without the build sheet there is no way to know for sure what axle it had, however you can make some assumptions based off what options were available and what was common. I am not sure but I would say that a 340 AT car probably came with 3.23 or perhaps 2.76 (guessing here based off of experience, but really don't know for certain). I do know that the 73's I have had as well a 74 were either 3.23 or 2.76 gears, not sure if 3.55 were an option or not in 73.

Took out the rear and got it cleaned up a bit. It is a 8 3/4 unit with a Sure Grip and quick check of axle ratio shows to be about 3.23. There was no metal tag, pretty obvious someone was there before. Now the fender tag showed Light duty transmission, so I am ASSUMING that means a 904, would that be correct? It currently has a 727 so now Im thinking it has all been changed out. My other two 904 cars have 71/4 rears, but they were 318s so not sure what was standard behind a 340 Thanks much.....

There is a 727 in there , but it is not the original one, different vin. No build sheet either, rats or rot got it. The metal frame of the rear seat is unusable to me due to rust. Seems it sat in rain water leaked in thru the back glass in its past. So , as a Mopar nubie just trying to figure out what I got verses what was original to this car. So if the 340 got a the 727 only, chances are it came with an 8 3/4 rear, or did they also put the two smaller diffs behind the 727s in 73.....thanks....

I thought all E bodies 1972 and up used the 8 & 3/4 rear regardless of what engine or transmission.

Ok, if that is true, mine may be the original one then. It does have the factory rear sway bar in place. Would that have been standard on a Rally car.....er, can you tell by the fender tag if this car IS a rally car. My 73 B body is a Rally car and it has the 8 3/4 unit with factory rear sway bar...thanks all...

Look for stamped no. 3681052 on tranny - left side front corner above pan gasket. There were no separate Rallye models after 1972. All were JH - - - as many hi-perf features were added as standard on 340 or 360 cars. ie: dual exhaust / chrome tips. My own '73 is almost identical to yours - built in March. It has louvres and stripes delete but came with side mouldings. Dealer installed louvres for original owner. Although 3.55's were available, mine came with 3.23's. I now have 2.76 (S.G.) and very happy.

O wow, thanks. The vinyl top must have been removed by a PO. I might just see what repop trim is available and put one back on. Question, What is standard mirror delete......there is regular looking chrome mirror on the drivers side.....was the G35 for the passenger side.......

EDITED: There may be a problem with the decode of G35 as Standard Mirror Delete. Conflicting info out there. The same code also comes up as O/S LH remote chrome mirror. G35 is only for the 1972/1973 model year and G35 is not used on the earlier model Challengers.

The G31 - Standard mirror looks like this.

The G35 - Chrome Racing mirror looks like this.

I searched for a factory 1973 window sticker (moroney label) to see what G35 actually said on the label and the price. I am guessing if you delete the standard, non-remote mirror then you would get the Outside Chrome LH remote mirror which would make the G35 code the same no matter what you called it. It may be a model year description issue only. The odd-numbered G codes are chrome mirrors and the even-numbered G codes are painted mirrors on previous model years (70-71).
Here is a list for the E-bodies:

ODDCHROME RACING MIRRORS
G31Chrome Passenger Side Racing Mirror (Right) Manual Adjusting
G33Chrome Driver Side Racing Mirror (Left) Remote Adjusting
G35Chrome Driver Side Racing Mirror (Left) Remote Adjusting (G35 used in 1972 and 1973)
G37Chrome Racing Mirrors: Driver Side Remote Adjusting / Passenger Side Manual Adjusting
EVENPAINTING RACING MIRRORS
G32Painted Passenger Side Racing Mirror (Right) Manual Adjusting
G34Painted Driver Side Racing Mirror (Left) Remote Adjusting
G36Painted Racing Mirrors: Driver Side Remote Adjusting / Passenger Side Manual Adjusting
G54MIRROR O/S LT (1974)
G64MIRROR O/S RT (1974)
G74MIRROR O/S LT/RT (1974)

1972 window stickers show G35 - RACING MIRROR-LEFT REMOTE-CHROME.
Anyone have the 1973 window sticker picture with the description for the G35 mirror code?

G32 and G34 (painted racing) are 'redundant' - meaning you cannot have just one of these without having the other. G36 code covers both of them. Same with G31 and G35 (chrome racing). G37 covers both. Consensus shows that G33 should be the 'conventional' left chrome adjustable mirror. My '70 Swinger has this code - and described mirror. I also have a loaded tag from '74 Challenger with codes G54, G64 and G74.

The mirror code which shows up on the fender tag can be described different ways. Single or double mirror codes that show up on the broadcast sheet typically say MIRROR O/S LT or MIRROR O/S RT. This gets more complicated as the codes and broadcast sheet format changed for different model years. I was able to find some window sticker/fender tag/broadcast sheet examples showing some of this. 1974 adds more G codes.

SINGLE RACING MIRROR
You can have a single driver side chrome (G33 in 1970-1971, G35 in 1972-1973) or a painted (G34) mirror and not have a matching passenger side mirror. The fender tag for the body assembly guys, the window sticker for the pricing, and the broadcast sheet for assembly line parts availability would all have one mirror code in this case, either G33, G34, or G35. 1974 had yet another mirror code change which ended up as poster volunteer said above, G54 for painted Outside Left, G64 for painted Outside Right, and G74 for Outside Left/Right. A 1974 broadcast sheet example is shown later in this post.

Here is a 1972 fender tag which would be G35 - Mirror O/S Left on the broadcast sheet and a different 1972 Challenger's window sticker showing G35 - RACING MIRROR-LEFT REMOTE-CHROME for $14.95. *Note this is for one Single Chrome Racing mirror on the Driver's side which would replace the standard G31 Chrome mirror.

DUAL RACING MIRRORS
If you have a fender tag code of G37 for DUAL CHROME RACING MIRRORS, your 1973 window sticker would also have G37 for Dual Chrome Racing Mirrors and you would have G37 on the broadcast sheet. Same would apply for a G36 painted mirror code.

G37 line enlarged from the 1973 window sticker below.

1605233094614.png

And here is a 1973 Challenger fender tag with G37.
1605234090645.png

And also a 1974 broadcast sheet showing the G54 - MIRROR O/S LT, G64 - MIRROR O/S RT, and G74 MIRROR O/S LT/RT mirror codes. Why three codes when just G74 would have worked is anybody's guess?

Hope this shows some of what the mirror codes were for different years. I will edit the previous table to add what I found.
Bottom line is I believe the answer to bandit 73's earlier question on his G35 mirror code is his car came with the G35 - RACING MIRROR-LEFT REMOTE-CHROME.
