Can you put a shaker and 4 bbl on a 1971 LA 318?

Yes - It can be done. The 70 (and 71 I believe) shaker came on the 340 cuda with a four barrel. I believe you can get everything you need to add a shaker from places like YearOne. It would take a four barrel base plate - not all shakers where hemi's and six-packs...
I have been looking at doing this for a while, but it's not cheap.

Yeah Thanks. I have a 71 with a 318 and I have always wanted a shaker and a 4 barrel fuel injected carb. I was just wondering if anyone had attempted it. Thanks again

I also dont think there ever was a 318 'cuda but I have cuda door cards and more parts like that so I might make it a 318 'cuda.

The key thing I see to vary on shaker setups between engine and carburetor combos seems to be the shaker base plate. And they make those after-market for several different setups, some of which are not factory.

A lot of money for just looks. More money would need to be spent on the 318 conversion to a four barrel ( Injection??) Linkage conversion, intake manifold, carb, fuel lines, etc. Just to bolt it on. To take advantage of the four barrel, cam kit, valve job ( install unleaded valve seats on 71 heads) headers... Might as well rebuild the engine OR just put a post 72 360 long block in it.
Anything can be done for a price...

Mid 80s had a Caravelle Police pkg with a 318 4 bbl if you want a correctly sized intake otherwise you would have to use a 340 intake & the intake ports will be larger in the intake than in the head . Otherwise it is possible as there were factory 340 shakers in 71 .
Tommy the Chryco probably has all the needed parts .

With a little work or in some cases alot of work. You can make the shaker fit for sure. I have alot of hours in my custom Shaker that I made to clear my tunnel ram and two 1050 Dominator carbs.

If that’s what you want, do it.
Don’t listen to the guys that don’t wanna spend ANY money.
A cuda with a shaker scoop is very cool.

To fit the shaker you need a low rise manifold that has the carburettor pad position the same place as stock.
I have an Edelbrock Performer and all is good.
A single plane or a high rise dual plane I doubt it would fit. The shaker base plate has around a 2 inch offset "sideways" as well.
You cannot go UP much before the shaker hits the hood when you give it some loud pedal.

Technically, I don't think there were any 318 'Cudas made. There were 3 models available in 1971:
Barracuda (BH23 hardtop, BH27 convertible)
Gran Coupe (BP23 hardtop)
'Cuda (BS23 Hardtop, BS27 convertible)
The BS 'Cuda came standard with a 383, but also available were: 340, 440+6, and 426 Hemi.
The Hemicuda came standard with the N96 Shaker hood, for the other motor options the Shaker hood was optional.
I am not sure if the N96 shaker hood was available on Barracuda, Gran Coupe models? Maybe someone knows?

That being said, if you want to put a shaker hood on a 318 Barracuda, go for it! It is your car, make it the way you want!

I agree. I love the Shaker on all E Bodies. Built mine my way.

In the years that shakers were available, 70 and 71, there were no BS Cuda's available with a G code 318.
In the years without shakers, 2-4, there were BS 318 cuda's.

I think a shaker on your 318 would be awesome. Do it up. Let's see it!!
