Planning to build a high performance hyd roller crammed 440 engine. Is there a preference on push rod ends as to whether a cup or ball end is preferred? My choice would be to use a cup end where oil would accumulate to lube the rocker arm tip. Any opinions?

The pushrod ends must match the rocker arm adjuster ends. The balls fit into the lifters and the cups are on the rocker end and match up with the ball on the rocker arm. Many stock rockers have cups built in and use a Ball/Ball style pushrod. A ball has to fit in a socket. Think about how that works.

What I should have mentioned is I have the option as to whether the rocker arm adjuster can be set up to use a cup or ball end pushrod. Just seeking opinion if a builder has the option to use either/or, which option would they choose and why.

I've got pushrods with a cup on mine with a Comp Cams rocker set up. It's from back when they made good ones.

I think either will work just fine. The factory used the cup and at first so did the after market. But the after market seems to be using the ball/ball push rods now. The main thing is the correct length and no interference with the springs, retainers and such.

Thanks everyone for the advice. Greatly appreciated. I was also thinking about Manton pushrods but will check into Smith Bros. Also thanks to Chryco Phycho for the best six pack kit I bought from you several years ago.
