I"m surprised data tags won't just make you a tag.
Since you don't have the info, any tag they make will be easy to spot.
Is Data tags not in business for money? seems weird he won't do it.
Yeah true... Well the guy did not have what I would call professional courtesy or was warm or friendly so that was a little odd to a potential customer with cash to spend on his products. I got the impression I was being a pain in the A. Does he treat every inquiry like that? But at least I suppose the info could be called helpful. In response to my second email asking if he could make a fender tag from the information I gave him (after owning the car 17 years and knowing the two previous owners, I know a bit...) he just said, "I will defer you to Dave at MMC" and gave the link to the site. Anyway this guy at MMC Detroit looks like the real deal for what I want. He just deals in Mopar only, 1966 to 1974. They reproduce trim (fender) tags. They get right down to every tiny detail and these are the guys are the "Certified Mopar Authority" and reproduce the inspection stamps and chalk marks, paint daubs etc that came out of the factory for owners wanting full original concourse resto's.
Don't think it will cheap though
As for fraud, as you say, well Australia has pretty strict laws when it comes to vehicle documentation. But it's the VIN tag and radiator support numbers that they are concerned about. The fender tag is mainly a trim tag - it shows trim, paint colour, roof trim, some options and most other numbers relating to manufacture are also found in other places on the car.
I also forgot that the VIN shows the engine, so mine is an H code car and therefore a 4 speed, definitely not a 318 with 3 speed that I considered it could have been.
