If i wanted to hide a grounding switch somewhere on the car to help with theft, would i ground the coil? I have a battery master switch already, but feel like that is where someone would first look.

With a stock Chrysler points or 70s-80s style electronic ignition, ground the negative (-) side of the coil. When the switch is activated and the coil becomes grounded, the car will crank with the starter but the coil will not fire. Even if the would-be thief tries to hot wire the ignition by running a wire to the positive (+) side of the coil, it will still crank but not fire. Although if they leave it connected that way, it could burn out the coil.

I have added this same setup to many of my older vehicles. Mine all have stock electronic ignition systems.

My ignition system is an MSD. Will that still work?

This approach will not work with MSD ignition because it connects to and fires the coil differently. However, MSD describes a method to wire a theft deterrent switch with their ignition.

I don't use MSD, and I don't know if it applies to all MSD ignition systems, but from two of their product manuals are the following images. It is similar for both.

MSD Blaster Igniton, part number 5901:

Back in the day these would come up missing. I had two. One hidden and one in plain sight marked AUX lights. Mark it something else. Wire them in series.
