I have a K frame that I believe came out of 73 challenger. I'm not sure if it was a big block or small block engine. Can someone tell me the difference between the two. Or are they the same small and big block? I can't find any numbers on it. I have had this over 40 years. Any help would be appreciated . Thanks Jim

I do not believe there was a difference between BB and SB K frame in 73 but I could be wrong. I know in earlier K frame there was a disc tack welded to the front of the K frame with 2 numbers on it which indicated which engine it was designed to accept (although generally there were all the same except for the Hemi and /6 frames and the 6 pack K frames had a skid plate, well at least some did).

I suspect there is a number on there somewhere, not sure where it would be though. Bottom line is that you can put a BB or SB onto that K frame.

A somewhat related question - not meaning to hijack...
As far as I know this is the original K for my '74 Cuda 360 - it was installed with the matching eng and trans ...
It has these weird brackets that stick up in front of the motor mounts - I have had reactions "never seen that before" - seen very few pictures showing the like on line - I did at one point find a reference that said "some" '74 K's had this (if I remember the quote) - but not explanation
Any ideas?

If you wire brush the front middle of the frame it will have a manufacture date code lightly stamped also the disc type tag will tell you the engine type

In 73 I believe they started with the spool mounts, so that K frame maybe 72 with the 2 piece mounts.

I remember my '73 Satellite had spool mounts on a 318 - but were they ever used on e-bodies? Parts I looked up for my '74 only showed sandwich type

This what
i believe is the original k frame from a 1974 Challenger 360 auto.
i had. I think the two extra brackets are factory and for restricting engine movement (torque)

Thanks - I wondered if it might be something about torque movement - might extend motor mount life - not sure it would protect against failure. Might get a better idea once I get the motor onto the K frame next year
