Most Delicate Way to Remove Hood Popup Spring?

I just removed and re-installed the hood pop-up spring. Bending the metal tab on the base of the spring is not hard at all since the metal is soft. It bent open and closed with little effort. You will likely chip the paint when closing it again.

P.S. My Cuda (AKA Rusty) is not a show car. So, proceed with caution.

BTW...The pop-up spring should not be painted body color. It was Zinc Phosphate plated - - a blackish/dull finish. If you remove the paint, it may look OK, but if not, you can spray it with OER Underhood Detail Paint [K89540] spray paint from Classic Industries.

Pop up spring was never used on AAR or TA fiberglass hoods steel hood only
That is correct.
