I just wanted to update this, I finely found some vents that are made to retrofit a non A/C dash. They are not exact size of OEM, but maintain the style, and are made to work with aftermarket hoses. I am getting a set from Classic Auto Air. They actually are part of their kit, but will sell them separately. The cost was just short of $90 shipped.

I just wanted to know what is need to convert a non AC dash pad to a AC unit. I am planning on putting in a Vintage Air system, but do not like the under dash unit. My thoughts are to put in a factory AC dash, and plum the hoses the original vent if possible.
I have an original ac car and converted to vintage air to get a truly great working heater/ac unit I believe it was the best 1200 I spent on the car. You can barely see the unit

How did your project turn out? I am in the same boat, have a 72 Challenger (currently restoring) with no AC and looking to change out the dashpad with an AC type (currently rebuilding dash and will get a new pad this winter). Dont care for the look of the vents attached to the bottom of the dash, so I want to use OEM or OEM look alike vents, like mentioned in earlier post, the metal frame already has the cutouts, so its the pad and vents a guy needs to get.

I ended up selling the project over a year ago. By chance I was going through things a couple of weeks ago and found the Classic Auto Air vents that I had bought for it. I would be willing to sell them for a reasonable cost if you are interested just PM me.
