Hello, has anyone used a 10 - 15 micron oil filter for engine break in? I can only find filters that are as low as a 21 micron. I honestly don't know how crucial it is to have a finer filter for that initial 20 minute break in. I would be changing the oil and filter after the initial break in of course. The motor is a flat tappet 340. I have been checking the specs on all the filters, but just can't find anything finer than 21.

Thank you
Marlon

That did used to be the spec for road car oil filters. If 21 is all you can get it should be OK.
Realistically if something is wrong and you get metal flakes the oil filter does not save the motor.
Just use what you can get.

Change the filter right after break in and cut it open.

My theory is use whatever filter, but replace it and the oil after less than 500 miles after break in! This has worked for me 40+ years!

Also, if running a flat tappet (non-roller) camshaft make sure you have either an oil with lots of zinc and phosphate or and additive like ZPPD. The additive is much less than new lifters and a camshaft!

I'm using the entire Driven product line. Assembly lube, assembly grease (for cam and lifters), Driven GP1 30wt break in oil and 10w30 day today oil. I haven't used their products before, but after the research, I believe it's the best choice.
