oil filter leaking

shop that did the engine work, removed the oil filter to block assembly. went through 3 different oil filter to block plates held in place by threaded bung[ 3/4 inch nipple] . went through 3 different adapter plates to block. the last one did not leak when just rolling over the motor. over. when started it leaked. is there a gasket that is incorporated with the adapter plate and bung/nipple.

shop that did block work removed the plate and adapter....did not know this until engine assembly..sued a 3/4" pipe nipple to replace adapter... have a plate, must be wrong...got any idea where I can fin those 2 parts???? 318 engine..

It's likely available at several sources for the parts, but one good place for the plate, fitting, and gasket is Mancini Racing:

Mancini Racing #2402105 Oil Filter Adapter Kit

This fits the 318 and other LA small blocks, but not the later Magnum engines.

A standard pipe nipple will not push the plate against the block machined areas to form a seal. The correct adapter fitting has a flange in the middle to press the plate against the block.

Had the same problem when I got my engine rebuilt. The 3rd try got it done, after losing 60 dollars of oil. Had to use gasket sealer on the gasket.

UP DATE. was gasket. very old probably OEM.. Of course Chrysler discontinued that part. Made one out of karopak [dark grey]. No more leak----thanks
