Hi everyone, hope you had a great 4th yesterday. I was wondering if anyone could help me understand what wrong with my ring gear and pinion setup. Just had a new one installed in my Cude rearend with new bearing and it whiens on acceleration and flat out and a little on coast. Its 3.55 ratio mounted on a 8 3/4 suregrip. Here are so pics of the pattern.Thank for any help you can give me. Looks like the pinion gear is too close, are there any shims under the ring gear?

Thanks for your reply!
There is .030 shim on the pinion. The ring gear has threaded adjusters no shim. The gear manufacture said the pattern look a little deep to him also.

Which housing number are you using ? 489, 742, 741, ? The 489 uses a crush sleeve to set the pinion and is not reusable. The 741, 742, uses a solid sleeve that just uses shims and is reusable when setting then pinion depth. There is a crush sleeve eliminator kit for the 489 if that is what you have. Here is a recent article explaining proper set up on 8 3/4" diffs.

It's the 489 case and we did replace the crush sleeve.
