I have a three piece shaker hood assembly in a hemi cuda with two four barrel Carter carbs. Carbs are not original to the car. I took the assembly apart for some maintenance and noticed that the adapter plate has a 3/4" piece of plywood attached to it. It is probably acting as a spacer to achieve the correct shaker assembly height. I doubt that Chrysler was still building cars with wood... even in the 70's so I'm thinking that this is not the factory correct shaker adapter and baseplate assembly. I cannot find pictures of what the correct baseplate should be given the current carb configuration.

Can someone confirm that this is/is not a factory set up? If not, which car was this baseplate intended for? Does anyone have a factory correct assembly that I can see some pictures of?

My goal with this car is to bring it back to factory if at all feasible. Thanks for your help!

Also I have seen some pictures of the baseplate having "feet". These are not present either.

I have a 340 Shaker so no help on your actual question. Mine is one 4 barrel.
Mine has the support feet under the front and straps that go down to the cylinder heads. The Shaker bubble is pretty large and heavy and requires extra support at the front.
Does the bubble have the part number on the inside?

I don't see any part numbers on any of the three pieces. They are probably repro. I would like to see where the part numbers are located on factory versions of these parts.

From what little I know the shaker base and plate has the part numbers paint stencilled on to them.
Strip paint they are gone.
The shaker bubble has a part number "moulded" in to the underside.

the OEM bubble will have a pentastar and part number molded into the underside. The OEM base plate and adapter ring, will have a stamp in white or silver ink showing the part number, along with a "made in canada" declaration.

Repro parts won't have these. Not a big deal. If you're confident the intake and carbs are #s correct for your engine, then buying the correct base plate should resolve your "wood shim" problem.

I thought some of the repro shaker bubbles had the part numbers on them as well. I know that on my original bubble it was really hard to see the part numbers with older eyes.

Someone suggested that since the original K member was for a 318, the engine mount adapters may have changed the engine height and that is why the wood shim was installed. (see picture of current engine mount) I'm thinking that if I purchased the 'correct' base plate I would still have this problem?

Good point. I presumed it was an original hemi car. Once you got all the correct "Hemi" parts in there, be it K-frame, motor mounts, whatever, the correct parts will all fit and work nicely, together. If something is wrong, yea, you're gonna want to figure out what is what. If the carbs and intake are correct #s, there are only a few things left, and the K-frame and motor mounts are on that list.
