Good evening guys,

So I am starting to work on the trim of the front windshield, but I don't have the locations for the mounting hols that hold in the trim into the front lip of the roof. During Paint and Body phase I installed a new roof skin, but I don't know where to put the clips. Dose anyone have the dimensions for the hole size and shape, I don't recall if they where oval or round holes?

-Thanks.

I am presuming we are talking about a 1970 car.

There are 12 windshield trim clips in total. 6 are used along the top, and 3 on (the A pillar) either side.

The precise location (left-to-right) along the top, or down the A-pillar is not documented, as far as I know, and it's not that critical. Just as long as they are uniformly spaced and symmetrical.

On the top lip, I would divide it in half. On each half, I would place one dead center, and the other two about 13-inches away from dead center.

On each A-pillar, I would place one dead center, and the other two about 11-inches away from dead center.

The clip sits vertically, with its "back" pressed against the raised wall that makes the well into which the glass is mounted.

The depth of the clip is intuitive. The bent part of the clip sits downward into the crack or corner bend of the sheet metal making the floor of the lip. The top of the clip is at, or nearly at the top bend in the sheet metal, bending away from the vertical wall.

As for the hole size, if you got the trim screws or screw kit, you'll want to measure the shaft part (not the threads) of the screw and use a drill bit size at, or ever-so-slightly larger than the shaft, and definitely smaller than the over-all diameter of the threads.

Locate the clip at the desired location, and mark the hole with a sharpie or an appropriate marker. Drill and enjoy.

These are installed prior to installing the windshield.

I'll have to look for the measurements. I do think I posted this before.

I put the tape there so I would know where the clips were. Only applying pressure where there at.

Front windshield clip locations. One picture with grid. Can make a calculated guess. I think I have the measurements. Just have to find them. Someone might come up with them.

This should work. Thanks guys for the speedy response, I should have clarified its a 70, I'm only missing the holes on the upper vertical areas of the roofline front and back. The pictures and measurements should be all I need.

Thanks fellas..

be careful not to drill to far down in the channel or the clip will fit to deep and will not catch. if to high then fits to lose. have someone measure how far from the top and drill a piece of sheet metal for a guide. i can't do that right now as car is out for paint. good luck

Good Advice,

I appreciate the heads up and that is one of the measurements I need. I do have the original holes on the front two pillars. I'm hopping its the same depth. My plan was to measure the depths of the screw holes from the bottom of the Sheetmetal fold, to the hole. Then make the rest on the horizontal portion match in screw hole depth.

I was planning on making a jig once I got the correct measurement. If anyone with the front window out of a 70 challenger could measure that screw hole depth that would be awesome. I need to do this for the front and back.

-Thanks guys.

Do you have the clips? If you don't I wouldn't drill any holes until you have them. I have seen several different clips and they are not necessarily the same.

Clips will be at the house this week, I'll probably just have to asses the correct fitment once I get the clips in hand. I think it would be best if mock them up, prior to drilling anything. Just based on what I've learned.

-Thanks guys
