i looked at a 70 challenger with a rebuilt 383 when i took the radiator cap off the radiator had no antifreeze in it. The guy started the car i could smell a strong sent of antifreeze. looking around i noticed steam coming up near the right rear of the exhaust manifold. i asked the guy about it he said the exhuast manifold bolts going into the head need to have sealent put on them because they go into the water jacket. Im no expert just wondering if this is true. has anyone heard of this? Thanks for any help.

True , the head bolts for the exhaust go into the water jacket , the factory used studs & sealed them in to prevent this , if bolts were used or the studs were replaced but not sealed properly this can be a problem for sure .

It's a simple fix per se. the seller should be willing to fix or have it fixed. That way you both know it's not something else.

he has told me alot of things about the car but after looking at it i found issues everywhere and not sure i will buy it. i told my wife it would take all summer to straighten out the numerous issues. The car was supposed to be just fully restored but it needs alot. Thanks for the replies

Wow, I've heard that "fully restored" story before! The truth is in the details though....
