1970 Cuda Wiper Switch

Anyone know what would cause my switch to short out and melt the wires under the dash going to it? I wasn't running the wipers and the switch was off. Coincidentally, my buddy just called to say that his Challenger almost caught on fire from his wiper motor overheating.

If anyone has a switch, I need one. 3sp
