I bought a '74 Challenger, did I get a good deal? Or did I pay too much?

Alright, I just recently bought a '74 Challenger for around $4k. The car itself is pretty straight, there's some surface rust here and there. It had a rebuilt engine, new paint job and new master cylinder a few years before it began sitting. It has a 318 in it from another car.

It also comes with half a two-car garage of spare parts, we're talking six doors, lots of original glass, three spare backseats, five front seats. Lots of stuff.

Another question I have is I'm not certain whether the trunk floor pan is legitimate, there's room to stick my fingers down below on the side? Based on some pictures I've seen it looks like other trunks might have the same crevice but I'm not sure. I should have investigated that more thoroughly in case it's a false bottom and it's completely rusted out underneath there.

Did I make out OK?

Welcome to the Madness !! Sounds like you made a reasonable enough deal, to me. If you post up some pics of the car , we can get a better idea.

the trunk pan itself is a three peice unit. you have the center main area and on both sides of the trunk are your trunk drop off pans. your trunk is going to have a gap on both sides so yours is normal. i ended up finding a old can of polish/beer caps and pull tabs/cob webs and leaves in the trunk of my challenger, the quarter panel and trunk drop pan dont meet until at the bottom.

how do the quarter panels on the car look behind the rear wheel wells? also any rust areas on the car you can visually see thru thats not surface rust as mentioned? to me it sounds like you did alright just depends on the condition of the car as a whole now and what it would take to bring up to show/good driver quality if thats what your going for. i bought my 1973 challenger about 2years ago for 6k its got the numbers matching 340 small block in it with auto transmission but was told it didnt run nor shift. lucked out when i got it and adjusted the carb and filled the tranny with fluid(plum dry) and it ran great. parts wise sounds like you did good and can always sell the extras you dont use to people on the market. where was the car located at?

There's a bit of corrosion above one of the wheel wells but it hasn't rusted all the way through.

What do we think? Body is pretty straight, sorry about the photos not being the best. The rust over the rear passenger side wheel well can slightly be made out.

He has original bumpers but switched to these. I'd probably put the 74's back on.

Looks like it may have worked out this time but I think it might be prudent going forward to first ask for opinions BEFORE you make a purchase such as this. Ask the forum prior to the purchase, after the purchase there is not much we can help you with.

Around these parts (SoCal) I think he got a smoking deal as well. Archer, I might be interested in those bumpers, or at least the brackets for my '73. Let me know if you want to move them along. :)
