so I am trying to figure out an electrical issue. Anyone know how many volts should come out of all the wires connected to the starter relay?

My coil with the car not started but power on has only 6 volts on the positive side. Started it has 6 as well.

The starter RELAY has absolutely nothing to do with the ignition coil and/or ignition circuit of the car.

The starter relay has one purpose, and one purpose only. To supply current to the starter to crank the engine when you turn the key to the start position.

As for the voltage you are seeing at the ignition coil, that is determined by voltage drops from the battery to the coil. Most of the drop is from the Ballast Resistor which is in series with the coil. Depending on the value of your ballast resistor and the internal impedance of your coil, the voltage measured at the coil will vary. Line losses between the battery and the coil can also reduce voltage measured at the coil, this is most often due to poor bulkhead connections, ignition switch problems, or other poor wiring conditions.

I had a similiar problem reading only 8 volts behind my gauges and Amp meter. After some testing and inspections found that the positive post of the battery had some corrosion, but could not be seen, only when I removed the positive lead you could see it, cleaned it all up and then had 12volts, all my lights are heaps bright now.:)
