Before you do anything, can you give us some details ? When did this start to happen ? Was it after you made any parts changes or adjustnments to the engine. Things generally just don't happen on their own so we need to back up to when it started to happen to properly diagnose your issue...

Disconnected. That type of timing is for the track where you keeps the rpm's up. For the street you need to know the distibutors advance curve.

That is correct. Have you tested the tach ? There so many questions that need to be answered. This is a50+ year old system. There were adapters, replacement tach boards and not everything is compatable. Unless you are tyhe original owner, a lot of things could have been done in 50 years.

Did it ever work or did you just do this conversion ?

There were issues when doing this with an early tach and electronic ignition. What year setup are we dealing with ?
