finally got some time to blast her got about 80% done, when rain showers were coming, so got cleaned up and put away, back at it probably mid week, came out well. found a few small boo boo's but overall very nice

Well the rest of the results are in, pretty damn good for 54 years in michigan. Has a few issues of course but very happy

with the underneath results

Looks great! You are right, certainly does not look like a lived in Michigan car. Must not have been driven in the winter months very much.

car was garage kept since 83. doubt if it ever saw much snow. can't wait to start welding on it. just finished a couple framing jobs so gonna be back on it tomorrow.

THE BAD AND THE UGLY. started cutting out the rusted area's in the wheel well back to weldable metal. there are several different layers of metal, going back to that pattern if possible. Took pictures before cutout, but was pretty gone, as you can see, I think i have the drivers figured out but does ANYONE Have a pic of the areas intact. THANKS in advance.

How are you addressing the front of the rear wheeltubs for rot/rust?

dived into some of the fun stuff first,still battling my air compressor, drawing to many amp still but managing for now. Like I said earlier going to peel it back and o boy, got back to solid metal and stated layering in back together, with coat the underlying metal with acid and nickel phosphate, then etching primer, then sanding down the areas to be welded as good as I could. With a little 2k primer it should look pretty original.

oh well will try to take completed pic tomorrow. welded trunk braces and spare tire holder into trunk pan. with be climbing up into the depths of the trunk with a rattle can of etching primer just to get something on the

metal up there, before pan goes in

I use the self-tapping pan head screws then remove every other one making sure it does not lift when screw is removed. I got the screws from my building supplier they used for metal stud assembly. keep in mind I do this for fun and do not consider myself anywhere near a professional. I will screw the trunk pan, rear crossmember, and tail panel into place and test trunk lid fitment before any of that is welded together, hopefully that will be soon.

thanks, the new metal isn't so bad but tying into the old takes alot of patience, I always wanna do more but end up paying the price with a blow thru hole.

one more trunk pan fitting, with rear crossmember and tail panel fit pretty nice, sat trunk lid in place I think i got it. traced frame rails onto the pan underneath removing one more time to predrill some holes in it then reassemble and screw it together, and start welding it in.

that was after i was done, I tried working on cars and drinkin a few times in the past and then going out the next day and fix half the stuff I did. ended up celebrating a bit last night. getting close to putting this trunk pan to bed for the last time

back at it trunk pan welded in spent the day building a make shift paint booth had metal studs from left over jobs got a $100 bucks into the plastic, cheapest project so far of the deal
