I am in the process of upgrading the ignition on a '70 Challenger RT/ 383.
I have the Mopar Performance Electronic Ignition Kit, new engine harness and a hi-voltage coil.
I have heard that when doing this upgrade that the alternator needs to be upgraded also ?? To what ?? Do other components such as the voltage regulator and starter relay also need to be changed out ?? Any help on this issue will be appreciated.

Peco, stock alternator, regulator, starter relay should be fine. If you add electric fans, water pump, electric fuel pump then a upgraded alternator might be needed. With the new engine harness,I would get rid of the ammeter and put a voltage guage in it's place.

The MP ignition upgrade is straight forward and simple with no other part upgrade needed what so ever. All you need to do is go to Radio Shack for simple electrical parts. Wire connectors, shrink wrap, etc....

the early voltage regulators used up to 69 were points type & did not work well with the electronic ign , in 70 they went to a ground switched electronic regulator which works fine with the electronic ign

Chryco Psycho is right on this one, Unless you have done other changes to charging system, the Mopar conversion kit is complete and your car should run much smoother, Plugs should last longer, I would also use jvcuda's suggestion and change the ammeter to a volt meter. Much safer as it is common for the ammeter's wiring to get hot and possibly damage your harness ,or start a fire.

LOL, Common?!?!
How many fires have you seen?

the only part of the harness that would get hot would be something pushed to close to the somewhat hot amp meter. At best.
